August Plot Announcement

Dear Reverie Operators,

Most of you indicated that they’d be in favour of receiving ooc information on the mod log events before the logs go up, so here is the first pre-log plotting posts. We will be making these a regular thing from now on. Please feel free to use this post’s comments to plot with one another!

AUGUST PLOT INFO

The August plot takes place in four stages. The first stage will last from August 1 - 4, the second stage from August 5 - 10, the third from August 11 - 15 and the last from 16 - 31.

Moreover, there are three different paths (P1, P2, P3) the plot can take for individual characters. Which path it takes for which character is up to player discretion. For all stages and paths, the degree of severity to which characters suffer from the described symptoms is up to players, as is whether they suffer at all. We'd like you to make it your own as much as possible.

STAGE 1
This stage is the same for all characters: they will suffer from a light fever, feel achy and tired.

STAGE 2
P1: The fever will go away and characters will feel fine for a brief period before new symptoms set in: something dark and black spreads from their heart toward their extremities through their veins, making them stand out. The pain of this ranges from light discomfort to severe. If characters investigate and cut themselves open, they will find that their blood has turned black and smells pungent.

P2: The fever will go away and characters will feel fine for a brief period before new symptoms set in: something hard starts spreading beneath their skin, making movements just a little more difficult for affected areas. The pain of this ranges from light discomfort to severe. If characters investigate and cut themselves open, they will find that they can cut away only a layer of skin before reaching copper spreading beneath their skin.

P3: The fever grows worse. Characters experience hallucinations of their extremities turning to dust and lose sensation in their extremities during those hallucinatory episodes.

STAGE 3
P1: The blackness spreads and brings additional symptoms and worsening conditions with it: skin starts to rot and fall off, toe or fingernails or entire toes or fingers might rot and fall off, wounds open that ooze a black and foul smelling, thick fluid.

P2: The hardness spreads and brings additional symptoms and worsening conditions with it: some joints may no longer move at all, skin turning hard and impenetrable, characters losing their sensory perception of affected limbs/surfaces.

P3: The fever finally lets up, but affected characters find first their skin and increasingly the entirety of their body turning translucent and insubstantial.

For all paths, the progression of these symptoms is interrupted by what appears to be characters’ bodies fighting back, so symptoms may briefly revert before progressing, characters’ bodies wavering between pro- and regression of the illness that affects them. However, it appears that their bodies are losing the fight and the spread of the illness/its symptoms is unstoppable.

STAGE 4
The tables turn for all paths with characters’ bodies gaining ground in the regression back to normal. The extent to which characters’ bodies revert back to normal is up to player discretion, with the potential for some of the transformations becoming permanent.

If playing out stage 4, keep in mind that a player plot will unroll on August 15.

Characters can look into what causes these symptoms, what fights them and whether there are any ways of treating the symptoms. If your character takes action in this regard (or regarding something else entirely) and you would like to know what they find out, please write a short description of what they’d do and comment under the “QUESTIONS” heading below.

Is it actual copper under their skin, or just something copper in color?

If a sample is looked at closely in the lab, it will show it is actual copper.

Would Erik be able to sense what it is without the use of lab equipment, or would something interfere with that ability?

He should be able to with his abilities.

Excellent. Semi-related follow up: if Erik were to rip the metal out of somebody's body, let's say Alucard. Would it kill him? Alba says that as long as his heart is whole he should be able to survive it. If I'm understanding the information correctly, that would largely depend on what point of the transformation process they try this. Is that accurate?

Also would he revive normal or just the same as he was wrt the coppering?

It would depend on how much copper is pulled out. As we mentioned to Alba, pulling out the copper may result in flesh, muscles, bone, and organs to be pulled out alongside if it is in the late stage of the infection.

He would revive with the copper still there.

Yes, but only at the highest points of the insubstantial phase.

OK, so I have a few questions:

1. Ryo'd want to investigate tissue samples and blood samples in Research & Medical. So, what would he find? Science is the name of the game with this boy and he'd ask folks for a range of them if they'd be willing.

2. In the event that a character has rapid healing rates naturally, will the spread be impacted? Would the fever break and restart cyclically, for example? The same goes for stage two. Would these symptoms wane quickly? I'm speaking for characters who can recover limbs, heal from wounds within minutes or hours, etc.

Also, would application of his serum have any effect on the transformations?

The copper is copper. The black blood is a form of necrosis.

The serum would have no effect.

Can Alucard rip out any of the copper from himself or another person?

Alucard can rip the copper out, but it might result in massive blood loss, or worse. With the copper might come along flesh and bone and potentially, organs.

If it is in the beginning of the infection that the copper is pulled out, it would regrow.

Unrelated follow-up question: Is the type of copper forming in their bodies the same type of copper that was found in the game opening actions (ie, Rogue found a copper wire in her neck)? There are differnt types of copper, so just wondering if the two are the same or not.

It is the same.

Can P3s walk through/get stuck in walls/floors/etc? What objects and features of the station does their insubstantialness generally respect/disrespect.

Yes, but only at the highest points of the insubstantial phase. They can go through anything in the station, but might get stuck very easily.

two questions to piggy back off this: can they phase through doors we haven't unlocked yet? and do their clothes stay on them when they phase through stuff?

Their clothes remain unaffected by the illness, so no, they do not stay on. Regarding the unlocked doors, characters can in principle phase through these as well, but will find themselves either stuck in the door as their insubstantiality shifts back to something more solid, or will find themselves phasing through the floor after only a brief look at the height of their insubstantiality.

Are there any unique side effects for non-organic lifeforms? A lot of these are geared more towards human characters, and while most of them I can personally figure out an equivalent to for 9S (like rust instead of rot), it'd be cool if there was something unique for the non-organic characters!

The virus can affect androids and non-organic characters as well. The black blood, which is a form of necrosis, can affect them in altering their internal systems, decaying and rusting of their wiring, at its worst turning wires and components to melted sludge. The copper issue can also affect them, turning their joint to solid copper and making it more difficult to move.

If Steve were to test that his super soldier serum is still working by hurting himself in a minor way (shallow cut or bruising), would his body still heal as it normally does or would this change its effectiveness?

No, it only affects the characters, not their pets.

would clary's healing rune have an effect? or would they end up fading faster than usual? does her angel blood counteract the virus itself?

Her healing rune would work, but it only counteracts the virus for a time before it comes back. It wouldn't affect the fading of her runes, and her blood would not counteract the virus.

so could she essentially get around this by just applying an iratze every time the virus comes back? runes don't really have a cool down.

It wouldn't work completely. It'd be a bit of a tug of war between the healing and the virus, because it would be coming back very fast, and constantly.

For path three, you guys mention how characters will fade out of existence. Does that mean it's not playable, as in, they are in a sort of limbo but don't remember where they are/are not aware of anything going on until they come back?
