( 002 ) MOD ANNOUNCEMENT: STATION ROSTER & TIMELINE

Dear Reverie Operators,
This mod post concerns the introduction of a game timeline (more on that below) and the mid-month “mini event”, regarding information characters will receive access to ICly: on the morning of May 15th, all communication devices will give a chirp. Upon checking their communication device (or the nearest terminal, should your character have destroyed their personal device), characters will be faced with a choice.
( 1 ) NEW MESSAGE. ACCEPT STATION ROSTER?
Y/N
If characters choose yes, THIS FILE will download to their device. Unlike the link, it will not be editable in itself. The sender is simply identified as "Reverie Terminal" and any attempts to trace the sender will only reveal that the message originates on the station. The date of the file is corrupted, but it certainly isn't newly created.
Characters are welcome to discuss this message on the network or in person, suggest themselves for particular jobs, figure out how selection procedures should work (e.g. is self-nomination sufficient, should there be voting, is it a matter of competence or of sheer strength) or disregard the station roster entirely and figure out their own way of life on the station. Fact is: the station needs maintenance and characters need to get organised somehow. It looks like they'll be on Reverie Terminal for a while yet, after all...
OOCly, should characters decide to use this roster, you're welcome to edit the spreadsheet to reflect the jobs your characters have chosen, were chosen for or have started performing. For most of these there is no reason why more than one person couldn't do the job (even station governor could be fulfilled by, say, an assembly of characters rather than one person) and characters are of course welcome to take on one or several jobs on a part-time basis or invent additional jobs. Moreover, some jobs will, at this time, be impossible or very difficult to perform due to a lack of access to the relevant information, areas or technology.
Feel free to use this post to talk about character responses, plot, etc.
If there are any questions or comments, please leave them under the designated top level below.
Additionally, there is now a GAME TIMELINE outlining events that may be of relevance to old and new characters alike as they shape life on the station, ask important questions or learn more about the station’s history. All information linked to or contained on the timeline is information characters who’ve been around can ICly know and that new characters can learn about by asking around or reading the network. We’d love your help in keeping the timeline up to date and relevant. Please see the linked post for more information.
That’s all for now from our side but as usual, don’t hesitate to let us know if there’s anything that’s unclear or that requires our attention.

As such, I'm personally leaning towards harm minimization. OOC voting always kind of goes sour, and IC voting often can bleed over into that (but it can also be fun when it works out). Venus is probably going to argue that they don't need a governor if people don't immediately make grabby hands for it, but... like, I can't not be the chaotic voice of dissent if it happens. I play a devil, it's out of my hands. :P

We could always have people put forth their characters if they would be interested and RNG it, should we go with multiple people?

as far as Alex goes he's going to definitely side eye anyone looking to make themselves a governor

How do the elections work in Mask or Menace?
How are characters nominated? ICly or OOCly?
Are ambassadors rotated out, or is it a position people keep for good?
Are the positions limited, or can anyone join in if they're elected?
I'm assuming voting is handled with the DW polls, but if not, how are votes handled and counted up?
How long do voting periods last? Do characters have to "campaign"?
If MoM has a system that works well, and generally doesn't leave anyone feeling sour, I'm very curious how it's done, and I'd like to look towards that for potential inspiration or ideas.

I think one of the key things is that Ambassadors don't *actually* have a lot in the way of power - they can't force other characters to do anything, for example, so that helps keep a lot of the ooc drama down
OOCly when an ambassador spot is freed, usually by a drop or resignation, a post goes up on the OOC comm
anyone can nominate their character OOCly, but they have to have been in good AC standing in the game for at least three months (or two months, can't recall) to apply. This helps keep characters/players who wouldn't be able to handle the workload off the list, which can be a sore point oocly
There's one ambassador position for each city, so there are four ambassadors total, and ambassadors are allowed to keep staff
for a game like this, i would say a 'council' makes the most sense, ICly and OOCly
voting is handled by comments - the votes are screened and characters must be logged in, and are voting ICly, not OOCly.
There is a nomination and campaign period of a few weeks, voting is left open for a few days
Honestly though, electing leaders this fast might not be the best idea OOCly, but i love the idea of them all fighting about it ICly for a while

Thank you so much for answering! I'm a little wary of IC elections, but knowing that they can work (and a little more on how) is really reassuring. My only experience with them is watching Trans 9 sort of... get too wrapped up in elections, and I'd hate for that to happen here.

IT'S TRUE
but yeah i think it really helps that the ambassadors basically are just there to run interference between the PCs and the NPCs basically - so there's no actual 'boss' idea

Alucard will be largely indifferent and may not necessarily care to listen to whomever may end up in a place of authority if he disagrees with them. That can be interesting, but I'm hoping that won't step on any OOC toes either.
