dropping a few visual refs off here too in case you want them:

tree person! the small, thin branches coming off are similar to what i envisioned for the roots, or something like ivy/honeysuckle.

a more cutesy idea involving leaves/vegetation for hair, and green skin. if you're wanting less horror-ish and more fun, this might be nice!

contrast with this, where many part of the body have ceased being recognizably "human" - like the arms and hands!
