Cassian's a spy and a pilot, so he can figure out most interfaces pretty quickly, and slice (aka hack) and hotwire things in an emergency, but when serious engineering is needed, he'd rather go to a proper engineer himself. :-) He did reprogram a droid on his own once, but the comic book that deals with it in canon has it basically be an issue of repeated forced reboots. So… the analog would be: if we were talking medical ability, he'd be a battlefield medic, not a doctor.
